# README

Lenses K2K is an application that allows you to replicate Kafka topics from one Kafka cluster to another.

{% hint style="info" %}
**K2K is generally available.** See [Releases and compatibility](https://github.com/lensesio-dev/k2k-documentation/tree/release/2.1.0/.gitbook/includes/install/releases-and-compatibility.md) for supported versions and upgrade guidance.

K2K (Kafka-to-Kafka) is a modern, standalone data replication engine for any Kafka API compatible implementation, designed for asynchronously replicating data between Apache Kafka clusters. It provides a robust and configurable pipeline to continuously mirror records, schemas, and topic configurations from a source cluster to a target cluster.

K2K ships as two applications — a **replicator** (`k2k`) and an optional **offset mapper** (`k2k-offset-mapping`) — configured through a single YAML pipeline file. The replicator copies records between clusters; the offset mapper translates consumer group positions so applications can fail over without reprocessing from the beginning. When offset mapping is enabled, both must be deployed. For administration tasks, use **k2k-tool** (CLI and web UI). See [Glossary](/latest/k2k/glossary.md) for naming conventions.

2. [Architecture](/latest/k2k/architecture.md) — understand the two applications and pipeline file
3. [Minimal Configuration](/latest/k2k/minimal-configuration.md) — write your first pipeline
4. [Deployment](/latest/k2k/deployment.md) — deploy with Docker or Helm and start the replicator
5. [Configuration Reference](/latest/k2k/configuration-reference.md) — configure features and tune performance

For how K2K behaves under load and how it scales, see [Performance](/latest/k2k/performance.md). For operational procedures, see [Runbooks](/latest/k2k/runbooks.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.lenses.io/latest/k2k/readme.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
